Intro
After December 31, 2026, Manitoba will no longer accept online security guard training or online exams. If you're enrolled in our Manitoba Security Guard Training course, you can still finish online, but you need to complete your course and register for your provincial exam by 11:59 p.m. (Central Time) on December 18, 2026. Training for Alberta or Saskatchewan? Nothing changes for you: your training is still 100% online.
What's changing in Manitoba
The Manitoba government has changed its process for security guard training. After December 31, 2026, online training and online exams will no longer be accepted in Manitoba. From that point on, Manitoba learners will need to take an in-person course and exam.
Already enrolled in our Manitoba course?
You can still complete your training and exam online, from home, on your own schedule. Please finish both of these before 11:59 p.m. (Central Time) on December 18, 2026:
- Finish your course.
- Register for your provincial exam at guardtraining.ca/exam-booking.
Why December 18? Both your course and your provincial exam must be completed before December 31. Some learners need more than one attempt to pass the exam, so finishing by December 18 gives you time to rewrite if needed, even with the holidays.
Finished your course but haven't booked your exam?
If you've completed your Manitoba course, the only step left is your provincial exam. Register now at guardtraining.ca/exam-booking so you have time to sit the exam, and rewrite if you need to, before the deadline.
New to Manitoba security guard training?
Our Manitoba course is no longer available for new enrolments. Because Manitoba will require in-person training and exams after December 31, 2026, we recommend looking for an in-person course with a Manitoba-approved training provider. Manitoba Justice keeps information on licensing and approved trainers on its security guard licensing FAQ.
Training for Alberta or Saskatchewan? Nothing changes
This change only affects Manitoba. If you're training for Alberta or Saskatchewan, no action is needed and you can continue your course as normal.
Frequently asked questions
Can I still take security guard training online in Manitoba?
Does this change affect Alberta or Saskatchewan?
No. Alberta and Saskatchewan learners aren't affected and can continue training online as normal.
What happens if I don't finish by December 18?
After December 31, Manitoba learners will need to take an in-person course and exam, which will likely cost more and require more of your time. December 18 is the safest date to aim for because it leaves room to rewrite the exam if needed.
Can I get an extension or a refund?
No. Extensions cannot be granted, and refunds will not be issued as a result of this change.
