This Red Cross Certificate course meets the requirement for your Ontario Security Guard License and is WSIB approved.  Certificates are valid for 3 years. The blended Emergency First Aid & CPR / AED training course is a combination of 3-4 hours of online study and 4-5 hours of classroom study. This Emergency Level First Aid and CPR course is a hands on, interactive course teaching simple First Aid & CPR techniques for individuals who want an overview of First Aid & CPR for the workplace or home. Learn how to recognize, prevent and respond to cardiovascular emergencies for adults, choking, airway and breathing emergencies, and prevention of disease transmission. Participants will also learn how (and become certified) to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

The Process

  • Upon course purchase, you will receive an email from SGC to choose your date and location.
  • Next, you will receive an email from the Red Cross inviting you to create an account to access the online part of the course.
  • The online training MUST be completed prior to your scheduled in person training.
  • Upon completion of your in person training you will be given a temporary certificate.  You will be emailed your permanent certificate 3-5 days later.
  • The Ministry of the Solicitor General requires your permanent certificate.
  • Do not send SGC your temporary certificate.

As a security guard, your duty is to respond to emergency medical situations that occur wherever you are working. This means that you are often first on scene to assess a situation and call 911 if required. Our Emergency First Aid and CPR training course will teach you how to respond to those in need of immediate medical attention. First aid and CPR is an integral part of the security guard training course and can be critical to saving someone’s life before paramedics arrive. By completing this course, you will learn the necessary First Aid and CPR skills to provide emergency medical attention. You will be able to respond accordingly when someone is going into cardiac arrest, choking, slips or falls, as well as deal with other emergencies such as bleeding, anaphylactic shock, and bandaging wounds.
